Because you are running a 4.2L motor, keep in mind that you are not going to want to exceed either a single 2.5" pipe *or* a true dual 2.25" pipe setup. Both are going to gain you about the same in power. The big question is how much are they going to charge you for the install. The difference is normally pretty minimal. This should also keep your mileage right about where it is now (as long as you keep your foot out of it) yet give you more power when you need it.
Now, as for the resonator and the mid line muffler, they are not needed. Most modern day aftermarket mufflers will fill all the needs you have in a single package. The only issue you might have is getting something that will fit under the vehicle. Even then, that normally is not a problem.
You talk about a drone in the vehicle. This is most likely caused by the bad muffler you have. If you look at mufflers, you will see lots of options. In your case, I would be looking at what most shops refer to as either a 70 series muffler (about the same volume as your stock system was new) *or* a 50 series muffler (slightly louder than stock, but still respectable). There are 44 series and 40 series mufflers out there. Having an SUV like you do, a lot of guys find these tend to give you the drone that you are trying to avoid. Not to mention that they tend to get a bit loud.
For your application, I would tell you go simply go with a system where they replace the Y-Pipe and everything back with a 2.5" pipe and run a single muffler with a single input and a single output (called SISO) muffler. Then you can have a 2.5" pipe run out the back of the truck (either out the side like the stock unit has *or* you can bend it to point straight out the back). This will give you more power yet keep things in check and not be an annoyance.
if you have more questions, just ask. There''s a lot more that can be talked about on this subject.

Well, first off, if you paid $200 for a muffler like you are describing, I would take it back, get your money back, and start looking else where. That is pretty high for just a muffler unless that included install. You can get a universal fit Borla/Flowmaster/etc for around $100 that would work and probably give you more power.
If you are looking for me to help with making an exhaust setup, there''s a few things I need to know:
1) when it comes to loudness, are you wanting to stay stock, willing to go slightly louder than stock, *or* are you looking for something like a 60''s muscle car?
2) are you wanting to stick with a single pipe setup, go with a true dual setup, *or* looking to have the dual tailpipes sticking out the back but having a single pipe setup?
3) are you looking for any performance gains in the way of either power *or* fuel mileage. Keep in mind, as you gain power, mileage tends to drop and vice versa. With a new muffler you will see a slight power gain and may even see a slight increase in mileage. But, you start designing more for power gains, I can garantee your mileage will suffer (partly due to characteristics of the motor, partly due to wanting to use more of that power).
I''m not trying to make this difficult, but there''s a lot of options with this. Sure, I can sit down and say you need 10 feet of this, 2 of that, etc, but if you install it and don''t like it, how good was it?

Walker exhaust should be a good set-up.It has clean and great sound and not much of exhaust leakage.
